Dry Lips Information
Dry skin can lead to other skin related
complaints such as fissures are cracks in the skin which can be very
painful. They can also provide a port of entry for bacteria to cause
infections. The best thing is to take preventive measures, Le., use
and cold creams at bedtime
and a good sunscreen during the daytime. If the body is
unable to perspire to regulate heat flow in the body, a patient will
suffer from dry skin. This is known as hypohidrosis.
1. Keeping your lips smooth, soft
can be as simple as slicking on your favourite lipstick. Lipstick
helps protect your lips. However,if your lips are dry
and chapped, stop using any lipstick, wait till your lips
and then restart using lipstick, one at a time, to find out
or shade is responsible.
2. Change to a tooth paste which has no colour in
it, i.e., a white one.
3. Stop using soap
and change to a face wash.
4. Avoid tobacco
5. Stop using chapsticks. Use petroleum jelly or
vaseline frequently. If you are not working
and staying at home, then the best thing to use is edible
sunflower oil (which is used for cooking) several times a day.It is
a good idea to use vaseline at night.
6. Avoid licking chapped lips. Keep them well
7. Avoid biting chapped lips. Chewing away at the
protective mucous membrane can make lips swollen
and may even lead to infection.
8. Avoid using drying skin care products
fonnulated with alcohol or benzoyl peroxide, such as astringents or
acne creams, on your lips.
9. Take vitamin supplements.
10. Eat plenty of green vegetables
In spite of all these measures if your lips don't improve, then you
probably need to see a dermatologist.
